Justice For All — Just Not Women?

Over the past five years, there has been a 50% increase in the number of women incarcerated in Victorian prisons.¬†This figure raises a crucial question: how do we ensure the justice system is equitable for women when it was created by — and for — men?

Join Women and Mentoring for this discussion exploring the social issues that arise when the law responds to dominant patriarchal narratives. A panel, including RMIT law professor Bronwyn Naylor and magistrate Pauline Spencer, will highlight how law reform has attempted to address gender issues in the law, discuss how well-intentioned laws can cause unintended harm to women and try to find a way forward.
