Seniors Rights Victoria provides information, support, advice and education to help prevent elder abuse and safeguard the rights, dignity and independence of older people. Free assistance is available via their telephone helpline.
Elder abuse is any act which causes harm to an older person and is carried out by someone they know and trust such as a carer, family or friends. Abuse may be financial, emotional or psychological, physical, social, sexual or neglect.
Seniors Rights Victoria can assist with matters including:
- intervention orders
- financial abuse including debts and loans, misuse of financial powers of attorney, transfer of property, and co-ownership disputes
- guardianship and administration
- family care and ‘granny flat’ arrangements
- misuse of powers of attorney.
Their services include short-term support and social work advocacy for individuals.
