County Koori Court explained at Shepparton Library
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are over-represented within the criminal justice system. As such, the County Koori Court plays an important role in encouraging active participation of the Koori community throughout the criminal justice process and is able to facilitate and address many aspects previously not considered.
Join guest speakers Terrie Stewart, County Koori Court Coordinator and Shirley Annesley, Senior Koori Support Officer, at the Shepparton Library and take a step-by-step look at the inner workings of the County Koori Court.
You will learn about the establishment of the Court, the importance of Elders and Respected Persons, Court proceedings, involvement of the Koori community and the expectations of defendants.
This is an amazing opportunity for the public to learn about this unique part of the Victorian court system.
This County Koori Court presentation will be facilitated by Goulburn Valley Libraries.
